Unalaska/Dutch Harbor (Ferry: rentals, hotel, schools)

Looking at a job in Unalaska. Trying to find information on housing rentals, cost of living comparisons, the schools, etc. So far, I have not been successful. Does anyone have any idea as to where to start looking?

What would your reasons for going out there? May be able to give you some advice on what you are wanting to do and where to go. I have spent a lot of time out there over the years and possibly can help you out....

For starters, it is a very expensive place to live. If you are going out there cold, you may be in for some hard times. Unless you have a good grubstake to get you set up, you might want to at least go out and visit, scope the place out. There is an upper end hotel, the Grand Aleutian and some smaller mom and pop type operations that would be a tad cheaper, but the round trip ticket is going to be almost a grand to start with. The State Ferry makes it out there a couple times a year, so taking a car out there may not be a good idea if you want to leave and can't take the car with you unless you sell it there.

I am thinking about moving out there myself...I am researching it like crazy! It would be nice to go with someone.
