I've seen people trying to cross the border at Prince Rupert after having exited the ferry that were turned back around due to the condition of their vehicles and lack of funds. It all depends on the attitudes of the Canadian Customs people on that day. It sucks cause the only alternative is going back to Ketchikan and taking the ferry to Bellingham.

And those guys that hit the buffalo outside of Fort St. John weren't so lucky either. They fixed their vehicle enough to be driveable but when they got to the US border they had to have the vehicle towed to Fairbanks.

I wouldn't take the chance.

I remember when years ago they'd ask how much money you had and other questions, and then sometimes they wouldn't ask much at tell. It probably all depended on the guy checking people through.

Sure would be nice if Customs followed the same protocol every day.

They do it on purpose so you do not know what to expect. Quebec was all about weapons, food, and alcohol. I had reservations at a hotel in Canada which the agent checked too. Did not ask about money.
