Can anyone tell me a good phone card that will work in Canada & US that's cheap & doesn't have a fee for using a pay phone?

I just bring a laptop/iTouch along on the drive. All the hotels have wifi as with most RV Campsites.

I usually get the AT&T phone cards from Sams Club. All of them have that fee for calling from a pay phone. You can't get around that.

What I did on the Florida to Alaska drive 2009. Used pre payed Razar Cellular Phone T mobile. It worked even on some places through Canada. The idea was only calling forward friends up in Alaska and don't call back home. All the wi fi hotels in Canada super 8 has easy access Wi Fi for computer. Your only on Canada highway only several days and thats it. Goes quick 3 to 4 days. I was real happy with super 8 hotels on the way up to Alaska.

Calling cards can be used in both Canada and US. The affordable charges and low call rates make the cards so popular. The card serves business purposes as well when employees travel to other countries and they need to report back to their head office.

Just wondering where the public phones are along the Alcan, I must have missed them... Certainly not any of the roadside, port-o-let/outhouses - or it some cases the 'ditch' we used.

I second getting some sort of pre-paid cellphone if you have to go that route, even those cell service is spotty AT BEST. I also used Skype and a VOIP program for phone calls when at the hotels with WiFi if a quick email wouldn't suffice.

I used an AT&T phone card that I get at WalMart to make phone calls when going through Canada. I turn my cell phone off once I cross the border at Sumas and I don't turn it back on until I get to Tok.
