After that, i'd head north to the interior to check out the cool wilderness stuff (Matanuska Glacier, Denali National Park, etc)

They say that about Juneau too, Danny. We're a... rather large drinking *city* with a fishing problem.

The guy we sent out to Akutan is camping out in Dutch right now because there are no rooms in town.

Seriously, Dutch Harbor for a vacation? I wouldn't suggest it!
My husband has been fishing there since 1980. I just put my youngest son on a plane there today to finish off the pollock season.
I've been there - once - I don't plan to go back. It's beautiful, yes, but so is most of AK, just find a place that's a little more for regular folks. A young woman alone in Dutch? I don't think it would be unsafe, but it wouldn't be a lot of fun for you and accomodations are sparse.
I agree with others - go to Homer! (brrr...) Anchorage is a good sized city with all the "Alaska" type things to see and do - Plus there are plenty of accomodations when the fishermen aren't trying to get in or out, or it's not spring break for the college students!
Think about going in the summer when weather is a little better and it's actually LIGHT OUTSIDE!!!

Good luck getting a flight to Unalaska. A big spill recently occurred near St. George, and there have been a lot of responders heading into that area this past week.
