We (I and the girl friend) plan to come up this month and look at a couple homes. We will need a place to stay for a few days and a car to rent. Any recommendations? Trying to conserve money so it doesn't have to be anything fancy. Ideally in the Wasilla area or within driving distance.

There's two hotels, Lake Lucille Inn & the Grandview. I prefer the Lake Lucille in. Oh, and there's another one... I think it's the Alaska View Motel. I've stayed there and it was basic, but okay. There's also Kozy Cabins, which I've heard good things about.
There's a bunch of B&B's too. Check with the Mat-Su Convention & Visitors Bureau at
Mat-Su Alaska .
For car rental... I'm assuming that you are flying into Anchorage and will be renting a car at the airport. Reserve your car as soon as possible. Prices go up as time goes on.
