Yes, I’m moving back to Northern Michigan. This comes with a very heavy heart, I don’t want to leave Alaska, but I need to make a living and ya have to do what ya have to do. For the past 2 ½ months I’ve been working for my old work place, Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, remotely, but they want me back there working “in house”. So, come the end of July, around the 25th, I will be moving to report for work August 8th.
I will miss many many things, some I won’t, but I already have a plan to get my butt back here, even if it may be just for a long vacation. Alaska becomes part of you and won’t let go in a good way.
The really good part of all this, is that I have a house lined up on 40 acres, pond, creek, butting up to state land, and about half way between very small two towns, Cross Village and Bliss, with a population of about 300 each. Cross Village has a couple stores and a historic restaurant. Bliss, well, has a single store that serves as post office, gas station and food. Oh, and only about 45 minutes from work.
So there you have it in a nut shell. Now I have to get packing.
Just for the hell of it, couple photos of the house and the two towns.

I really like the house. Congratulations on the job; I know it was a tough decision. Good luck and stay with the Alaska forum. You will be in Michigan but AK. will always be a part of you. Looking forward to pictures of Michigan when you are settled.

Oh, and I reallllly like the looks of that restaurant. How does your wife feel about the move?

Hmm, well Pat, there isn't a wife, we will be divorced one year in July. We are still good friends though.
The restaurant has the best Polish food I have ever had. They are only open during summer and 90% of the help are on visas from Poland just for the season. Look it up on the net, lots of history to that place... Legs Inn, Cross Village

I'm so sorry you have to leave, Nephler. Alaska needs men like you so I hope you can come back soon..and hey! I love your house! And the barn and all that space! Good for you and congratulations, it sounds like that's right where you need to be right now. I'm a little jealous knowing you probably won't be getting rained on the rest of the summer, sure getting tired of it here. Keep tabs on us even tho you'll be far away. We still need knocked the head now and then you know.

One of the prettiest places I've lived was in northern Michigan, the town of Charlevoix. This picture is of Charlevoix and Round Lake. We lived in a house that sat on top a double terrace which gave us a really nice view of the town and the lake. http://static.panoramio.com/photos/o...l/17498553.jpg
