I have been buying really high-end milk lately, by the half-gallon, just because it's available and I haven't really had super-premium milk before recently. I pay about $3 for a half gallon of the really really good stuff, comes in a glass bottle from Homestead Creamery right here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. So good it's like drinking ice cream.

For regular grocery store milk I think it's $3.29/gallon. That's not bad. And our store-brand here doesn't use growth hormones, and it's damn tasty.

We got a couple gallons of Matanuska Creamery milk in town for I think $4.95 a gallon. In Valdez, milk is one of the few things that doesn't cost more here: the store brand (the only brand, that is) is $3.50 for one gallon or $6.00 for two.

Would you say that Matanuska is the bread basket and the "Wisconsin dairy state" region of Alaska? I've heard they hold the world record for having the largest vegetables in the world!

$4.29 for out of state milk on Base. Pretty high considering you can by the same milk in town for $3.29.

Milk was what, $12.99 a gallon when I left Barrow? $7.99 for my favorite type of Oreos (Fudgees).
