We're going to be on vacation in Anchorage & Denali & down to Homer & Seward end of Aug to Labor Day. I looked at the Weather Channel today and every single day had a rain for the next 10 days.

Is this normal? A little rain is fine but 11 days of rain? We'd go crazy.

It is normal this time of year to have a lot of rain. But normally it does not rain all day, it is usually just sporadic rain. If you look at the total rainfall you will notice that the area really has very little rain, but we do get it in August and Sept more than at other times.

Last year we had like 30+ straight days of rain in July/August. This Summer/Fall has been quite the improvement if I must say. Here in Anchorage it's been raining everyday but mostly in the evenings and in the mornings it's a steady rain. Later in the afternoon it tapers off though we have had some days of rain the entire day. It's kind of hit or miss!

On the coast it may well be an all-day, every-day drizzle (and occasional actual rain) with clouds covering the mountains nearly constantly. We just had that here for two weeks, then three days of nice weather, and are going back into rain for probably at least another week. And it had been a really nice summer until this started. Last summer it was drizzly about six days out of seven.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We're coming whether it rains or not but are hoping for some good days just not 11 days of all rain no sun.

Living on the coast I rarely bother to check the weather report-odds are it is going to say something like chance of rain, partly cloudy or some variation of it. We just take it in stride. It is good for the gardens (I noted your screen name) and keeps this old gardeners wrinkles plumped up. :-)

You should understand that any forecast beyond 72 hours is almost worthless, especially in places where the weather changes a lot. it is a best guess based on models and it will change quite often. I don't know how many times I've heard the weekend will be "awesome" on Tuesday only to find out it was rained out.

I've also found the The Weather Channel won't be as accurate as the local NWS forecasts.

Here are the NWS forecasts for the places you plan to visit:

7-Day Zone Forecast for Anchorage
7-Day Zone Forecast for Denali
7-Day Zone Forecast for Western Kenai Peninsula
7-Day Zone Forecast for Western Prince William Sound
