Default Moving to AK- Best hospital to work at?

I am an ER, ICU Registered Nurse moving to AK. I would like to live somewhere as remote as possible, and still be able to drive to work somewhere. I am leaning toward Willow or Talkeetna. Any other suggestions? Any hospitals I DON'T want to work at?
Kate

I Worked In Anchorage At Alaska Regional A Few Years Ago In A Stepdown Unit. It Wasn't Bad. My Wife Worked Icu There And She Loved It. When We Were There Providence Was Having Trouble And On Strike Alot. But U Allways Hear Things About A Hospital That Aren't Necessarially True. Worked With A Girl Who Lived In Willow And Flew A Plane To Work When Weather Permitted. There Is An In State Travel Agency That Sends Employees To Different Clinics Around The State On A Temporary Basis. Heard That They Were Good To Work For. Good Luck We Love Alaska

There is a brand spankin' new hospital in the MatSu area... And since they are new, of course they are hiring every position under the sun.

It's not Talkeetna... but it's not all that far either

Sorry.. I haven't quite figured out how to insert a link in here yet where you can just click directly on it.. but this is the MatSu Hospital's website-

http://www.matsuregional.com/index_flash.php

I'll figure out the link thingie when I have more time..

My husband and I are both RN's and are recent "empty nesters". We are leaning toward Alaska, but I don't want to "travel" nurse. I would perfer a perm. place of employment. I have been looking at Kotzebue.
What do you think?

Hi,

Wow! A registered nurse that is looking to live in a remote area? Unreal!
Joined, just to be able to reply to your note. Have you been able to decide where you would like to work?
I have lived here (Anchorage) for 29 years, and for what is worth, you don't want this place. Mat-su ( Palmer- wasilla area) or the coast (Seward, Homer area) would be what I would recommend. For more then one reason.
If you would like more info, just drop a note.
Take care,

Steve

Soldotna has just expanded their hospital. Might try there. Nice little town with lot's to offer.

Default remote AK

I lived in Bethel for 5 years, and went back to Anchorage and worked for a year last year.
You need to decide what you mean by "remote". Bethel, Dillingham, Nome, Kotzebue and Barrow are truly remote- you can only get there by plane. The people in Anchorage seem to forget all the people living out in the Bush off the road system. Aniak is another option. Even more remote is a job out in one of the villages- there are over 50 villages outside of Bethel that can be pretty Third World, but would be an experience that you could never get anywhere else.
More classically "pretty" Alaska are the places around Anchorage and down the Kenai peninsula, like Soldotna.
I could go on and on

Default Matsu Regional

I filled out the online application with Matsu Regional for a clerical position. I live in Southern California right now and need to move in February.

My question is, do they take out of state applications seriously? Will they actually hire someone out of state without an interview first?

Default re: matsu regional

Most places jump at applications, even out-of-state. Of course, it depends on what kind of clerical job as to whether there are many local candidates for the job. They'll interview you by phone.
