Apparently this "elk" was so drunk he didn't realize he's a moose. Personally, never seen a drunk moose but then again I've never offered one a beer. Slightly skeptical since juveniles are among the clumsiest animals in the universe.

Drunken elk rescued from Swede's apple tree

(oh and yes I do realize moose are called "elk" in Europe. They got it wrong, what can I say...)

Europeans have some strange naming conventions. Alces alces, or what we call a "moose" (Athabascan for 'twig eater') in North America and they call an "elk" in Europe, was most likely named an "elk" after they hunted the Irish Elk (Megaloceros) to extinction around 11,000 years ago. The Irish Elk stood as tall as seven feet and had antlers that could span twelve feet, not too dissimilar to that of the moose. Only the critter was neither Irish, nor an elk. The remains of this giant deer were first discovered in the bogs of Ireland, but it ranged throughout Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
