I think it would be "cold" anywhere if you are from Southern California. What an adjustment to have to make.
I went from Anchorage to Indianapolis and thought I would fry the first summer there. Got out the fur parka for the first winter and never got to wear it. 28 years later and I am still trying to adjust. You can dress for cold but 100% humidity and 100 degrees and everyone stays inside and complains. It is all relative. Try Fairbanks in the winter when it was 60 below zero one time when I had to walk to college classes. Anchorage will seem balmy. Most people find the lack of sun in the winter to be harder to take than the cold. I find the change in light to be fun and just take up reading or interior activities when it is dark. |

I've lived here a year. For year I've heard nothing but how Alaska has had a record cold November, a record rainy summer, a record cold winter, unusually overcast weather........................ it never ends.
The weather is overwhelming. Yes, its gorgeous here.............. but unfortunately the best days to view the beautiful mountains are about 5 degrees warm with 6 hours of sunlight. Its too cold Its too expensive here People on the roadways tailgate continually --- its far worse than the "road-rage" that people assume exists in L.A. The gang activitity is no different than LA |

Ahh! Fairbanks in January. Nothing like a Parka, Mickey Mouse Boots, and Ice cubes coming out of your nose I loved Fairbanks and miss North Pole, AK. I do have to admit. It is 71 here in Georgia right now. ![]() |

Oh what I would do for the cold and snow. It's been very warm here in Virginia Beach it's November and going to be 75 tomarrow
I can't wait to go home to Chicago for Xmas the first time we have been home for years due to military matters. We will be in Anchorage for 10 days in Jan to find a house, and move a couple weeks later. I cant wait to go skiing, and snowmobiling.... Our families think we are crazy, but they know we will be happy. All I know is that I watched my beloved Chicago Bears last night and saw the snow and got jealous. The Navy moved us to Corpus Christi TX which I think is horrible. I hated the heat, and the people were rude. Then if you had any type of education the jobs didn't pay. I still have things I enjoyed out of it, but was very happy when we moved. You either can get use to it or you don't. I think it is nice to experiance stuff, but if you don't like something why stay and torture yourself. There are downsides to anywhere you live wheather they are minor of major it's what you make of it! Cynthia |
