We rock back and forth in cold lonely corners and wait for the hell to pass. We go batsh*t insane, often mumbling about jelly and trick ponies. We play pinochle with the family dog. Occasionally we just freak out and start crying but our cries soon become maniacal laughs and then subside into heaving whispers, it's Ok it's Ok spring will come soon.

Naw it ain't so bad. I get my daily 4 hours of fun in the sun. Keeps my tan going. And we play outside for real. You'd be amazed. Humans are very adaptive. Sure there are folks who sit inside all winter and "endure" but lots of us embrace the winter and truly enjoy it. Just rub snot on your hands and face and sweat it out.

Lord I am a sarcastic SOB.

When I lived in Alaska many years ago it seemed like there were two kinds of folks - those that got involved in their community and those that went to bars. Also, Anchorage and Ketchikan (the two places I lived) had the best libraries ever. I have found few down here in the lower 48 that can rival what they had to offer. I imagine they have only gotten better.

take plenty of vitamin d.

Get a headlight.

Learn to do stuff in the dark. People hike in the dark. I used to trap at night, didn't make a lot of difference. I remember heading out at 10 pm one time with a full moon.

There is still daylight...just not as much as places down south.

I imagine friends gather making a bonfire, cooking s'mores while watching the dancing northern lights..
