For any financial or sensitive correspondence addressed to you, it's a good idea to buy a P.O. Box at the local Post Office. The junk mail as well as package deliveries can always go to our new address, and the P.O. Box can be your billing address. However, all depends if you have extra cash to spare since a P.O. Box costs a little over $100.00 per year these days.

This one sounds good too. The only time I ever rented in Ketchikan was in Marine View. It was okay. 8th floor on the water side, had an awesome view. Only problems I ever had were some of the Filipino's cooked food that had a really, really strong smell. It was only bad when you were out in the hallway....

Ketchikan Classifieds

Downtown sudio apartment on Millar Street street overlooking the Tongass Narrows will be available November 1st. The house is situated at the dead end of the street and has no passing traffic and is a very quiet neighbourhood. The studio is small but comes fully furnished with all utilities paid, including heat and cable tv. It has its own private bathroom, entryway and deck. The studio is basically a queen bedroom with small kitchenette and would be most suitable for a working single professional. Non smoker with no pets. Kim 617 0089. $700 per month, first/last and $

Another hint, be nice to the snooty women at the front desk. If you are rude to them as some "lowly" receptionist, you will not likely get any farther then them. Good luck.

That is a very good idea. Once I've saved enough I'll probably get one.

Lol THanks! I saw this in the classifieds too. I was considering it. The price is pretty good and the utilities are paid for. Haven't called to check but I think it's included in the rent.

Man! Filipino food isn't that bad! You should smell the curry cooked by immigrants from India. Whoa... Strong smell! And the chinese "smelly tofu".. Even worse!

I wouldn't call it a culture shock. More like a pleasant surprise. The folks here are friendly and the last person I talked to (and helped) was a blind man. On Wednesday the FBK church is having a prayer meeting and I'll join them. Feed my soul and make new friends.

Thanks for reminding me that I'm not the only one who is going through this.

And yes! Winter is coming! All the more I need to work. Welding can keep me warm!
You sound like a very nice person, you should do well I hope.

Haha! Fortunately for them, I've worked in front-line customer service so I understand the feelings of a receptionist. There are days when they feel frustrated thus coming off as "snooty", or the fact that their just tired of their jobs. I mean come on... They're humans too right?

To me there is no such thing as a "lowly" job. A job is a job and someone has to do it. Even though some are paid less, it's an honest day's wage and that all that matters.

Except for illegal jobs like drug dealing/illegal betting bookie/pimping - Now that's a lowly job

I think jobs thought of as lowly are much more difficult in many ways than higher level ones...especially waitressing and customer service. I tried to be a waitress once and was horrible! It was for Denny's Restaurant in Anchorage during the graveyard shift. Most of the customers were drunk and I was very shy.

Hi,

The answer she gave makes it seem like she didn't know it was a Job Interview that you were looking for but maybe like she thought you were a reporter who just wanted to "interview" her.

Maybe she didn't hear the "job" part?
Good luck,
Jen

That's a good point, sometimes it is hard to understand people over the phone.
