They found child porn he had already printed inside his house in addition to what was on the computer. It's gonna be hard to blame that on someone else.

Yeah I know, Stiff, but why would he be stupid enough to take his computer to a shop because he was having printing problems if he knew it was loaded up with child porn? Unless he just wasn't computer savvy enough to realize it was in his printing queue. Though finding porn he or someone had already printed looks pretty bad.

"An 80-year-old Ketchikan city councilman"

Has he resigned yet?

The technician who was working on his machine is to be given two thumbs up for notifying the police, something I'm sure a lot of people at Penn St had now wished they'd done.

I agree that they did the correct thing by notifying the authorities.

Personally I'm not willing to condemn the guy just yet even though the evidence does look pretty bad. Someone in his position...would have to have been pretty skilled in hiding this sort of thing for as long as he did, and that's not consistent with taking a laptop and printer loaded up with porn to a local shop for repairs. But then again...I wonder if there was anything else in the queue to be printed, because he was obviously trying to print something out.

Either way it's a tragedy for the city of Ketchikan. And yeah, he resigned his council seat immediately.

There's some interesting comments here:

I think that's the answer. It was a shock to me. I've met and talked with Jack quite a few times. He's a nice guy. Not someone I would have at the top of the suspect list.

I work on computers Met...I am totally amazed at what people don't know about computers and how they work!.....As long as they push that power button and it comes on...yayayyy that is the extent of their knowledge.....have also learned to be very very tactful when I find a key stroke program, porn, or other such things on someones computer...never know who is responsible.

You never know what goes on behind closed doors and it has no age limit...20, 40, 60, 80, whatever. Innocent until proven guilty but if I was a betting man (which I am).

If it is his computer and they found more than a few pictures or whatever on there during HIS normal times on the same machine it will be hard to be proven innocent... but hey OJ did it.

Jen-just wondering
There have been cases where home computers have been hacked and essentially used to distribute child porn. I remember reading about a married couple arrested for having child porn on their computer, who spent their life savings trying to prove their innocence/stay out of jail. They were found innocent, but their life was ruined in the process. Hard to clear your name of that regardless of the outcome or evidence to the contrary.

In a similar story a 16 year old boy had the same thing happen to him, also with child porn:

Yes but system logs will determine if it was while he was normally on the computer. If it was then there is the system log of which port was used, ip address, access point. Only time will tell.
