We have come to the place in our modern society where pets are given the same rights as humans. In fact I recently heard of speciesm. Like racism this infers that thinking people have the right to decide the fate of animals is a violation of their civil rights.

Sorry, I do not subscribe to this thinking. It's amazing to me that people allow their life's direction to be dictated by an animal.

I know this sounds very harsh, and it is harsh. But hopefully it makes some people at least face their situation.

One of the top ten reasons people buy houses is to find a place for their pets. They will obligate themselves to a $200,000+ debt so that they can house their pets.

On the other hand, I know one landlord that allows pets. He loves it when his renters get a pet because he knows that they are going to have a hard time moving. His rentals are set up for pets and cannot be damaged the way most rentals can be.

Humans have taken it upon themselves to conclude that they're the pinnacle of creation and all things on planet earth were created for their pleasure.

That's pretty arrogant, isn't it?

when a person cannot bond with an animal an see them as intelligent, a loyal companion, treat them with respect....well...it speaks volumes as to the character of that person. A pet is a commitment the same as children....they are not disposable to suit ones needs or shouldn't be.

No it's not arrogant. It's reality.

They are animals. They are not humans. We aren't cannibals. We eat animals. That's just life. With that said I would have no problems in renting to someone that had a pet rock. No problem at all....

This is a touchy subject as some people's pets are other people's dinner... Several Asian countries eat dogs and cats, but don't eat pigs and cows... And yes, in starvation is has been proven that people will eat people. I hope to never have to find that out personally. I could never eat pet either.

I have pets and they are/were a commitment. I still miss the ones that have died and remember the love and companionship they brought me and my family. They each had their own personalities too!

I don't believe they should have the SAME rights as people, but abusing or killing an animal for "sport" is not something I would do or agree to. By watching and researching all things Alaskan, I would have thought the last thing Alaskans would stand for is the wasting of meat. I have fished/hunted, but I eat what I kill. (Unless there is some reason the meat is bad) I remember when animal cruelty laws were first being drafted down here, in the appeals process it was brought up that cooking a live lobster, would be illegal the way the law was written! Certain exemptions were created.

zzzzz I see that Stiff is trolling the rental threads again with his lame bs.

Good for you for not moving if you can't take your dogs; the shelters are full of animals because of so called thinking like stiffbrain's.

Humans are omnivorous land animals. That's it.

I think it might be more than that, Marty. A place if more of an actual "home" if you're buying, because you can put in what you want as far as gardens and landscaping instead of just mowing someone else's lawn, and can interior decorate to your own tastes rather than just deal with bland white walls. And yes, pets factor into it and I think that anyone who is willing to go into debt so that they can have their animals rather than dumping them on a shelter is a person of integrity.

As far as the comments about putting the animals up for "adoption", very few that go into shelters ever come out, and most no-kill shelters are overwhelmed these days and can't take anymore in.
