"Woof!" I said as you started the car,
"Hooray!" I said, it's my first time afar.
The scents we were passing were all new to me,
For it was my first introduction to this mystery.
As we got out of the car I embraced you with joy,
After all you remembered to bring my favorite toy!
You threw it once or twice, of which I retrieved,
But on the third it seemed you were ready to leave.
You threw it long and hard and I chased it like lightning,
But when I turned to bring it back I saw a sight quite frightening.
I gripped my toy hard as I tried to comprehend
What it was I did wrong to make our relationship end.
You walked back to your car as I sat there still loyal.
Why am I subservient and you so royal?
Your engine started, and you peeled out into the night,
You didn't even care about my overwhelming fright.
As I sat in my pose determined you would come back,
The sun faded behind me while the surroundings turned black.
Day after day I stayed in that park,
Lying... waiting... too feeble to bark.
As I lay there dying thinking of you master,
I asked myself how I got into this horrifying disaster.
With my last breath of life, I whispered your name
Then I collapsed in a heap overrun by pain.
Why didn't you love me master? Why didn't you care?
Had I no significance, was I just a clump of hair?
I stayed there master and I waited for you
I guess taking care of me was just too much to do.
I'm gone now master, no more You-and-I
But what I can't figure out is why you didn't even say goodbye...

thats about the saddest thing iv ever read

Met...you process fish for a living and by all accounts to a very good job of it. Are fish different than other animals? Actually that's not a question for Met because I'm sure she has settled this question but it's a good one for all of us to dwell on. What makes one animal have more of a right to life than another? Would it be wrong to raise dogs for food?

.
Marty, if I were to decide to keep a salmon as a companion/pet, I would consider myself responsible for the salmon's well being and would do everything I could to find housing that allowed live salmon. If I were unable to do so and I had no choice but to move into a house or apartment that did not allow salmon, I would try everything I could to find the salmon a good home on my own before I took the salmon to a shelter.

Dogs and cats aren't being killed in this country for food. They are being killed (which is what most often happens when you take one to a shelter) because the owner cannot or will not continue to care for them. Sometimes there are some very valid reasons for this and sometimes they are just treated as being disposable. A lot of people think that by taking their pet to a shelter, the pet will get another home; it hardly ever works out that way.

Government run shelters and animal control units also cost tax payers money. When someone decides that the cute little puppy is more bother than they're willing to spend, we pay for that.

I don't know whether it would be wrong, in another culture, to raise dogs for food, or even wrong in ours. I can say that it's wrong to raise salmon for food, though.

Take the time to think; 60,000 miles of veins are inside of every baby born.

As we mature to become adults that figure increases to 100,000 miles.

That has only one explanation that makes any sense; Intelligent design.
What the hell does this have to do with anything... p....

if you have ever taken in an abandoned animal and dealt with the depression and effects they suffer...this is on the mark....everyone should work in an animal shelter for a little bit and see the emotional toll on animals who have just been dumped off somewhere...

I've never done that, and I really don't think I could. My house would be filled.
One of my dogs is a rescue, the other is from someone that was having to get rid of a bunch of pups.

In order for this to work we would need to find a place prior to moving there so our dogs can fly with us. Any info would be awesome, thanks.

@stiffnecked not an option we wouldnt give up our dogs for a move, unless they were better off not going along or we had no choice.
I'm reading this to mean that you can have your pets in the temp. housing that they have set up.

Can you get on a waiting list for the place that Warpt mentioned and stay in the temporary housing until something opens up there?

Christ on a crutch, what to heck does this gobbledegook have to do with pets?

Marty: I do believe that pets or any animals have as much right to inhabit and enjoy this planet as humans.
