Quite simple, really, Red. You just have to stand there by the truck holding some sort of wrench or maybe a hammer, whatever's behind the seat, with the hood open. Soon, the flat tire will be fixed and you will be on your way without having dirtied your hands.

Girls night out, Alaska style!

I love this idea. It would be very cool for a bunch of us to get together, maybe for a weekend, and learn some new skills like that.

Yep, it's just that easy for females. If I tried that I'd be picked up for loitering and tossed in the pokey.

I am sure I sound very silly, but I have wanted to learn to hunt for a long time. Sadly, it seems like something people either learn as children or not at all, and my parents were both pretty opposed to it. I used to be, too, honestly, until I took a good, hard look at where the meat on my table was coming from anyway. I've seen some information about programs for women learning outdoor skills, but it's a little intimidating to sign up alone as someone with NO experience.

4th grade is survival grade here, everybody learns. We take the class out in spring where they have to identify any tracks in the area then build a shelter, find drinking water & build a fire without help. We stash junk in the woods they'd likely find anyway tho. Every single time the girls stand by watching the boys mess everything up 'til they can't stand it, then they take over and get-er-done. Every year, cracks me up.
Each kid is taken at least once during the year to fish for shrimp, crab or set longline for halibut on a commercial boat. In the fall the class skins the teacher's first kill, butchers the meat, donates it to the seniors and tans the hide.

BTW, I'm single too. Got married again for a short time about 20 years ago and that was enough of that.

I want to be nine again. That sounds amazing.
