I lived in AK. I was also replying to a comment from Moose, then kept it on topic by stating what I thought about the PFD.

Job Market Overview: Alaska ranks 20th among the states in per capita income. Cost of living comparisons are imprecise, but one study ranks Kodiak, Juneau, Fairbanks and Anchorage among the survey's 10 most expensive cities to live in. Unemployment in Alaska is above the national average. The employment growth rate is slow, below one percent. All in all, recent economic growth has been slow.

Nephler is an Alaskan and our friend, he just is gone temporarily. I'm not sure what to think of that quote, didn't think our unemployment rate was above the national average. Maybe it's from our smaller towns that have fewer jobs.

Nobody here seems to actually believe the pfd is that significant.

About the labor market...Alaska has a lot of seasonal workers who collect unemployment during the off season, many while living in other states. It reflects on the unemployment figures.

About your comments towards Neph...we don't need any more people trying to play hall monitor here. There are enough of them trying to dictate how others post.

I think of the PFD as sort of a nice gift from the state. Used mine to pay off some bills and maybe a little something for myself.

By the way, down the page you can see the cost of living in some areas of Alaska compared to cities in the lower-48.

By far, the largest employer in the Fairbanks area is the government. I don't think I could live in such a socialistic environment where hippies dominant and the government signs my paycheck.

I enjoy a patriotic (capitalistic) environment where the government stays out of your life completely: including job creation.

Know what I mean jelly bean?
