Default Sand Point

Hey all,
New user here.... I am a police officer in Maryland and am thinking of taking a police job in Sand Point, AK. The only issue is my fiancee. She just graduated from college with a BA in marketing/PR. There are NONE of those types of jobs in Sand Point, obviously, and the closest ones are in Anchorage or Fairbanks. So she would need to take a flight to Anchorage everyday to work... is this even possible?

On another note, what's it like living in Sand Point?

I know I would be in for a HUGE culture shock!!

Thanks!

Jamie

Wow... You've so much to learn. Of course, asking your question in a forum like this is the best place to start.
PenAir is the only airline that flies to Sand Point, which is on an island in the Aleutians. A round trip ticket is $800 and there's just one flight a day.
She could maybe live in Anchorage and fly out on the weekends to be with you.
I'm not even sure there's a lot of PR/Marketing jobs in Anchorage. I'd do some checking on that.
Before you would move anywhere in Alaska, I would HIGHLY recommend a one week trip first to get a feel for the lay of the land.

Well it is going to be a major culture shock, but if you keep an open mind, could be the best place you'll ever live, or the worst. I like the place myself!

Default Working and living in sandpoint, how say you?

Looking for a local perspective on working and living partime in Sand Point, Alaska. Also Adak station, Job would require living in both locations most of the time. I've been to different parts of Alaska over the years hunting and fishing, but always mainland. Any input would be great! TMT
