Those are wonderful photos Rance.
When I worked for Alyeska I had to drive the Haul Road several times, but I always ending up going during the winter months. I remember one time I was coming down the south-side of Atigan Pass in an APSC Suburban with an 18-wheeler closing in fast behind me. Since the road was sheer ice, I didn't want the 18-wheeler to have to use his brakes to slow down because of me, so I stepped on the gas. By using my rear-view mirror, I could keep my distance from the truck, and by the time we got to the bottom of the pass I was doing 65mph. It scared the #!$%^ out of me!

On the otherhand, when I got to a section of the Haul Road that was overplowed, causing me to sink into 3 feet of soft snow when I moved over to give a north-bound truck some room, that same 18-wheeler that raced me down the pass, stopped to pull me out. It could have been you c.adam!
I've been planning on taking a trip to Deadhorse in August sometime, just to see the tundra in bloom and see first-hand what it is like when it is not covered with snow and ice. There is so much to see in Alaska, and so little time.
