I'd suggest a little more research in this forum. This question has been asked & answered many times. Start here: Looking for land in Alaska.

I take it you want to be off the road system? Why don't you take a trip up here and see what awaits you; then you can dertermine 'are you really ready.'

I'd guess Alaska is not the place you're looking for, not in this day and age. Plenty of mountains and valleys down south for the price, but nowhere that I know of is anything for free. Without exception, every person I know living as you describe has worked for the life. NOTHING is cheap, free, or easy.

For a time, you may get away with squatting. Not a pretty word, and an equally unappealing concept. There are plenty of hillbilly havens up here, but unless you have the same stock of supplies as those who crossed the passes in the goldrush - a year's worth of goods, X-number of pounds of this or that, and plenty - and I mean AN EXCESS - of energy, good health, good weather, good fortune, time and LUCK, you're headed for a school bus down the highway, across a river, and stuck not too far off the beaten path - which may turn a few bucks your way, but you'd likely have suffered demise from any number of causes and conditions, take your pick.

Many of us had the dream, many of us made it a reality, but many, many more did not. I'm not accusing you of not intending to work hard or wishing for a handout, but have you considered Yukon Territories? All it would take is for you to exchange your U.S. citizenship for that of a Canadian, and maybe marry one. There's plenty of wide open territory there and, from what I hear, if you want to be lost and forgotten, they'd not pay a whole lot of attention if you walked off the map.

I'd suggest moving up here, rent a place for 6 months to a year, talk to some Realtors and get a feel for the the lay of the land.
You said you've done some research... What area are you looking to move to? Southeast, South Central, Interior??? What's your budget? You realize "remote" means no power, water, sewer, grocery stores. It also means accessible only by foot or air? It means if you fall and break your ankle, you can't just call 911.
Do you have cash saved up? What are you going to do for work/income? You haven't given us much info to go other than a vague dream.

This is Alaska. Land isn't cheap here. Unless your buying swamp. And even then it may be more expensive than what your used to in the lower 48. It's just the way it is here and your going to have to accept that fact before you do anything else. Alaska ain't cheap!
