I'd like to know all you can personally tell me about Homer. I've searched Google but haven't been satisfied.

Thanks!

It's beautiful for starters. I've lived there in the past when I worked the commercial fishing boats. I now live about 75 miles north but visit quite often for steamer clamming or sightseeing and lunch. I recently brought my good friend down for lunch on the spit...at Lands End.

It was cloudy but you can still see some mountains across the bay...and the spit in the background

I've visited Homer on several occassions. Their bumpsticker is the best way to describe it:

"Homer, a quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem."

Homer is a nice little town that gets swamped with tourists every summer. I found the people to be very friendly and the fishing absolutely amazing. It is about a 220 mile drive to Homer from Wasilla, and it is a drive I will gladly make knowing that I won't be disappointed. Besides, it gives me an excuse to stop at the Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing for a wonderful lunch or dinner.

In all my years (including one living on a boat in the harbor) I've only been in the Salty Dawg 3 times! Everyone should stop in just once!

My oldest got his first beer as a grown man in the Dawg. He wasn't 21 yet, but was working as an ordinary seaman on a landing craft (the Arctic Wolf), and the crew brought him there for a couple or three evenings. It was right down the pier, and I guess they needed a mascot to drag along.

Hey at that age and doing an honest days work...they deserve a beer or two.

I was (still am) pretty proud of him. He put in a 6 month stint on the boat and 4 months of that on an seismic survey with no dock time to speak of. Hard work for a 19 year old.

I recall reading somewhere that Homer boasts the US's most intelligent Women ;-)
I however reside in Kenai, not too far a drive and gorgeous at that!
