Default Two Barrow Children Medevaced to Anchorage After Assault

GOOD GRIEF!! Does this crap not ever stop!!

Two Barrow Children Medevaced to Anchorage After Assault - ktuu.com

ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
Two Barrow children have medevaced to Anchorage after being severely beaten at an apartment where a 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting them Thursday night.

North Slope Borough Police Department officers responded to a 911 call requesting an ambulance at an apartment building on the 200 block of Momeganna Street for a child who wasn’t breathing. Responders found a 3-year-old child who didn’t have a pulse and wasn’t breathing, as well as a 1-year-old in need of emergency medical attention.

The children were immediately taken to Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital in Bethel, then medevaced to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage for further care. ANMC officials would not state the children’s condition Friday afternoon, citing privacy concerns.
Borough police arrested Richard Tilden Jr. at the apartment on two counts of second-degree domestic-violence assault. He is being held at the North Slope Borough Correctional Facility without bail pending arraignment.

I think the insanity has been everywhere in Alaska! I've been the victim of a crime and the Troopers will do nothing. There's a possible abduction in Anchorage of that barista. I saw they had video.

When I worked as a police officer in Barrow 28 years ago this kind of stuff happened often. A previous poster on this forum would have you believe differently. Barrow is no paradise. It's a hard place to live and even worse on the innocents when you add in booze and drugs.

It's the poor kids who always suffer.

What scum this guy is. The thing about crimes like this, they're missing that one crucial element that most crimes have: motive. I fail to see what a person could gain from beating small children, or any innocent person like that, so it seems to point toward alcohol being a factor. It just makes you wonder what it is about alcohol that makes people do things like this. All I know is, I hope this guy gets some SEVERE form of punishment, but anything they could do to him would be better than he deserves.

I can only imagine what all this is doing to public morale in Barrow. And Stiff, you're a cop, what is it that makes this second-degree domestic, instead of first-degree? I mean, you would think something this brazen and terrible would be the very highest level of assault crimes, especially since the one kid was not even breathing when they found him. Hell, if it were me, I would classify this as attempted murder, for chrissake.

Alcohol and drug use is quite high in Alaska, so maybe that was one factor.

I forget the exact verbiage of the law, but first-degree assault statute includes something about the person acting "knowingly." I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that if the person is impaired and there is no evidence of premeditation that's hard to establish. AFAIK the distinction between first-degree and second-degree isn't one of the level of violence, it's of the level of malice aforethought or whatever. If I recall correctly a second-degree charge can be bumped up to a first-degree charge if it is part of a sustained pattern of violence, though.

There are also third-degree and fourth-degree assault so second-degree is still pretty high up there in terms of severity of charges.

One dead ! Maybe this will wake some of these people up!!

It is terrible; beyond what words can ever express over the damage done to infants in all of these villages!

This was an assault that resulted in the death of a very young child.

I've witnessed as young as two months old rapped in Point Hope & no one was arrested even through every one in town knew who did it!

Savages is the only word that rightly applies !!
