It is very interesting thread. Your Nome is similar to our Beringovsky. Why have everyone been gone?

Really? People intend on going to Nome to "strike it rich" without ever panning for gold anywhere else? Ever?

Say bye bye to your savings.

I wish you the best, but be real, just like the "original gold rush" most people went home broke and the vast majority of the people heading up there will also.

And some people never try.

Not what I said, but to have the first place you try one of the most expensive places to get things, including yourself, in and out of based on a TV reality show is pretty STUPID... and if you have a family, pretty irresponsible... don't you think?

Oh but wait we have people who do it all the time on YouTube and on TV so go for it, the house, the family, the cars, the boats can wait for you to get your "Gold Rush" out of your system. and I'm sure the bank will go along with it.

And they are all making their millions and sharing with you and I how they did it...

Dude, I've been to Nome, I've panned and sluiced the golden sands, I made bank. All before the internet, Youtube and "Gold Rush" were invented. Didn't have to take out a loan, didn't sell my house or lose the family cars.

Sounds like you need to turn off the entertainment devices and get out here and do something....

So people actually relocate to Nome based on a TV show? Sorry, I just stumbled upon your folk's thread here. I live in Minnesota and even though our winter is nothing like yours, it can be brutal. I have some folks from Arizona who just moved across the street. These folks have no clue of what is coming, neither has ever seen snow. So I can kind of relate to what you are going through with all these folks coming north. Alaska, not for just anyone.

No. If 4 people actually relocated and plan on spending the winter I'd be surprised. Many did come for the summer. From people I've talked to not a lot of the sissorbills made much money dredging this summer. Even the sourdoughs had a tough time due to weather. Gold dredgers can't suck when the wind and waves are high. Lots of missed mining days. Reports are that many days were spent mining the beach sands. Lots of hours spent shoveling into sluice boxes on the beach. The Nome Nugget had a few articles and is well worth reading.

Not what I said either - learn how to read.

Oh and if you made so much "bank" why aren't you still doing it...

Cause I'm old now. My interests have changed. I'd rather spend that time with my children and grandchildren.

Good for you, glad to hear it - but realize there ARE people going to Alaska to prospect for gold risking EVERYTHING they and their families own - based on a TV REALITY SHOW.

Never - EVER trying to find gold anywhere EVER.

And oh yeah - those dumb***es on that show did lose everything and had the producers not wanted another season they would have NOTHING.
