Thanks, Rance for your photos.
Makes my frustration a little less because I am not there.
Will be able to post my own photos taken in about 2 years... for now, will bide my time.

Great! (the pictures, that is) Hey, this has nothing to do with this "thread" - I was reading old stuff from earlier this year and saw the discussion of Heather Lende in Haines by Rotorhead. I read her book also and know that her husband owns the local Ace Hardware store. Here in VA (and maybe all over the US), we spend a lot of time on craigslist - ebay but free - and listed under AK real estate is the hardware store in Haines. I was wondering why he's selling, if they're moving, etc. There was a phone number given for questions about buying the store, but I didn't want to just call out of the blue and say, "Hey, I read your wife's book and was wondering...." Anyone know anything about it?

I thought they owned the lumber yard? She hasn't spoken (written) about it in her column.

Those two cubs played like that for an hour. They'd pick up old fish and shake them back and forth like rag dolls, then fight each other a little while. But it was sun set and being in the shadows it kept getting darker and darker to get a decent picture. But really neat to watch.
