The only access for most people is to fly in, there is a river access off the River System, but not very practical if you don't have access or know of someone with a boat.
There is/was a good river bank for landing by the town, it may be still there or washed away by now. I was planning to go there this summer if I have the time off and take some photos of the old stern-wheeler I was referring to. Last time I was there, I landed in a Cessna 150 which is by no means a "Bush Plane", but I wasn't very a high enough time pilot to realize that at the time either....
There is a lot of such towns that die after the gold went away, when you are flying across the vast nothing of the State, you will see a place that clearly hasn't see a human foot for some time. Iditarod is just one of the more famous of these places.
But if you make it out there, you will be thrilled!
