I was watching through binoculars too. My neighbor had a telescope set up in her driveway.

I'd like to get a Digital SLR when I grow up. Right now I use a Canon A640 and a Fujifilm E-900. The one I carry with me at all times is my old beat up Olympus point and shoot. I like the features on the E-900 and the A640, both have full manual controls.

My point and shoot is a cannon powershot 540 or something. It takes decent pics until I want to get creative or zoom or take night shots...then it's just a frustration. I have a cannon T70 old school camera with detachable telephoto and wide angle lenses. The T70 bit the dust on me the summer before last when I was hiking the Olympics...so now I too am in the market for an SLR simply b/c although the point and shoot is great for portability, I've outgrown it. I plan to drop some big dinero on an SLR within the next month or so....

I might be taking a road trip right after the oversea trip. My coworker and wife are moving back to Minnesota, they asked me to tag along with them.

It will be a pretty drive for you back to the land of 10,000 lakes. Why are they moving? Are they tired of AK?

My son had a SLR. He used it for about a year and then sold it on E-bay for I think $900.

He now has another Cannon A870 IS or something? It's the one with the wide angle lens? And mine has the manual focus. Between both of them....... He liked the SLR but too much hassle and too many things hanging from his back and shoulders.

Warpt you post pretty nice pics. I thought you had some nice big pro equipment.

Its not always the type of camera you use to take good pictures. Most of the time it takes an artistic mind to snap good pictures.

My coworker's wife is a teacher up here, she signed on for yearly contracts, I guess she's fed up with the district. She loves the kids, but not the politics in the system.

That's true to a point....when you want to push your creative limit or do things the camera won't let you b/c it doesn't have a powerful zoom or whatever, then yeah....it's the camera. Like I said, my camera takes really good pics...but I've outgrown it. There are things I want to do that I can't..
