you didn't happen to take a picture of the concretions did you??? I have dug them here and have quite a collection. Also have a friend who has a collection of concretions from all over the US and some from overseas. Plan on looking or digging them when we get up there!!

I did, but I'm not sure where those pictures are. If I find them I'll post them.

Thanks for the compliment! It's fun seeing everyone else's pictures too, although getting through 400 pages is taking some time! haha

This is something we found last year out in Willow while flying... I REALLY want a tour of this place.

I left the photo huge so it may take a bit to load but the house is just so unbelievable.... It's referred to by locals as the "Dr. Suess House" It just TOWERS over the tree tops and appears to have anywhere from 10 - 12 stories... Although as you can see it's kinda hard to figure out where one level ends and the next begins.

I guess it's been unfinished like this for the last 10 years, it would be so neat to see what it would look like sided and painted.

This second picture is really fuzzy but shows how the house sits against the river. And gives a better idea how tall it is.

We were with a friend in his airplane when we found this place, I'd like to go back sometime and take pictures of it from the ground. Part of me thinks it can't possibly be THAT tall!

It's awesome. I would love to know the story behind it. Because when a house looks like that, you know there has to be a story!

I agree on wanting to know the story behind it. I'd like to drive out there maybe this summer and take pictures from the ground - which will mean knocking on the door and asking permission as they are so secluded. Here's hoping they're friendly.

Barkingowl got me started, so to speak, asking if I had any photos of the ferry cabins. I've been meaning to do this for some time, I now have it started. Galleries.

The first is from our trip up here on the Alaska Marine Highway. I'm working on others now also. Links on the top left are links to locations during the trip, and links labeled "Thumbnail panels" roll through the thumbnails.

Alaska Marine Highway

Some photos are better then others, some are just plain crappy, but what the hey, boats move.

Also, clicking "Home" take you to, well, my main home site.

Nephler, those were neat. My brother worked on several of Ferries around Alaska but I haven't ever been on one. It was neat to see the picture of the bunk room.

Did you hear about the Lituya? It was ripped from it's moorings at the dock in 80mph gusts of winds. It drifted with no one aboard in rough high seas for a mile before it was shoved up on a small island. Locals with fishing boats attempted to get control of it but were unable.

It's the smallest ferry in the state's fleet. 181 feet in length, carries 18 vehicles and 149 people in its runs from Ketchikan to Annette Island.

I'm not sure if it's still under repair or not, I guess it only received minor damage.

Anyway below is a link to the pictures while it was grounded on the rocks. The pictures nor the site is mine but Anchorage Daily News used this gal's photo's in the paper.
