Rance, where is these places in Alaska? I want to go. Your pictures are beautiful as always.
Out exploring this weekend, I came across a dead moose at Jims Creek-Knit River. I am not going to post the pictures of the moose because they are pretty graphic, gross and sad. But the whole thing is odd to me. One I can't figure out how the moose got there, there is no tracks from being drug there, there is no moose tracks where he might have walked up there and just died, there is only one set of tracks to it, which was the tracks from the state trooper. There is tracks all over the place else where, old tracks. Its not rained or snowed, the mooses body is sheilded from the winds that blow across the flatts there because its under the protection of the embankment.
There is no blood, the animals rectum is missing, but not chewed at,also the throat, eyes, but no blood. There is no teeth marks where wolves might have gnawed on the carcous. There is not chunks of fur missing you might expect to see if a coyote or eagle or wolf was to have picked at it. Its like all the scavengers know somethings not right and wont touch it. I couldn't get any information from the wildlife and game division, its just so strange, does anyone whos a life time alaskian have any explainations? Seen anything like this? Why would they just leave this animals like this and leave it in such a popular place where kids on atvs and snow mobilers go. This is a really popular place, last year I came across a moose that was poached almost in the same area. What could of happened to this poor moose?

Most of my pictures are from Skilak Lake just north of Sterling.
Sounds like aliens abducted that moose!

Neither... We are actually near the Cascades of Mt. Hood.
About 40 Min. away from Portland.

I've seen Mt. Hood only from the top of MacKenzie Pass... Maybe I'll have an opportunity to see it from the base.
