You can see bears at any given monent, anywhere in the state, or you may not see any! If you drive to Portage south of Anchorage you can visit the wildlife center and see live bears, or at the Anchorage Zoo. I'm not sure which photos your refering to...Nephlers?
In southeast you'd have to DM Metlakatla for a more specific bear viewing location in those towns. I have not been down there since 1979!
Bino's...hmmm...I have some Nikon bino's but rarely use them. Someone else have any recommendations?

That looks to be suspiciously like a heavy dose of "reverse" fanboi to me!
Owning one given brand of camera is not what makes someone a fanboi. Advising others to buy the same brand "because I did" is what defines a fanboi. It's a disease that even affects owners of Pentax and Panasonic cameras!
