WOW!

You guys (and your amazing surroundings) never cease to amaze me. Thanks for keeping the photos going! Warpt, on that iceroad, are those stores right on the side of the road? That's a cool thing that they keep stores open for people traveling the iceroad. I was wondering when you first posted pictures of the iceroad, just how many people really drive on it? Seems like a fair amount though, if they have stores to support it.

Each village has a store or two. Jung's Trading Post originally started out as an actual trading post many years ago. Now they sell groceries and hardware. The main reason for the ice road is to haul supplies and heating fuel and gas to the villages. They are hauling lumber to a village called Kasigluk, about a 2 hour drive up. They just got done hauling fuel to Tuluksak, about 75 miles upriver, they were out of fuel for a couple weeks now.

Yeah, I could see on the map that Tuluksak was on the river, and I figured the iceroad went that far. That's cool how Jung's started out as a real trading post though; I've never seen a place called "Trading Post" that wasn't just a store. I was wondering what TLT is that you were talking about. Can't see Kasigluk on the map at all, actually. Does that iceroad go all the way to McGrath?

I just think those iceroads are awesome alternative transportation methods compared to airplanes and boats. Seems WAY cheaper than flying, and way faster than boating.

The road doesn't go that far, last year it went as far as Aniak and Chuathbaluk. I don't know how far they're going up this winter.

TLT is the code for Tuluksak.

I've been teaching myself all winter how to photograph the northern lights. Once you finally think you have the correct (manual) settings for your camera, then you have to wait for the lights to come out to test your theory. Tonight we had a geophysical storm and the sky exploded with light. I even was able to get some pinks. Unfortunaly after about half an hour, my fingers start to freeze up and I accidently pushed some button/s while moving the camera and changed 2 of the 3 main settings. So these are the only ones that showed up well enough to bother with.

See the bit of pink on the bottom? That's the moon down there in the tree line.

The Who's Love Rain O'er Me was going through my head. Too bad I must have bumped the tripod or it would have been more crisp.

I'm sad that most of my photos with red didn't show up but there are some at the bottom of this one too. I think this is my favorite.

None of these have been enhanced at all. I've only resized them and slapped my name on the corner. Enjoy.
