Default Wireless free zones in Alaska

Are there specific areas in Alaska where there is no wireless communications or minimal wireless communications?

Just curious and asking on behalf of another.

Thanks!

I'd say 99.9% of the state has either no wireless at all, or 1G covering as best...

Most of the villages in Western Alaska are covered by GCI wireless. The road system is covered by AT&T, GCI, ACS and soon Verizon.
But, if you get very far from the road or the village, you won't have coverage or weak coverage.

Sure the villages have it, but most of our state does not.

There are parts on the road system that have spotty coverage but it has improved in the last few years. But I know people in the lower 48 that are still stuck with dial-up internet.

Based on doing math. If 0.1% of the state of Alaska has 3/4G, that's still an area almost the size of RI. This would obviously include all the built-up areas in the state...

Aside from one little spot in Coldfoot, approx 450 miles of the Daton Hwy corridor from just north of Fairbanks all the way to Deadhorse has no wireless coverage (that's almost half the length of the State). Also, most of the Denali Hwy corridor has no coverage either from what I can tell.

I don't get cell service between After I get out of Cantwell until I hit Trapper Creek. That's a good 80 miles along the Parks. Also no cell service on the other side of Cantwell until I hit the Park about a mile in. That's anoth 20 or so miles of highway.

There are plenty of areas on the Glenn and Richardson Highways that don't have any coverage, or have spotty coverage due to terrain issues. The local telecom company has been putting up quite a few new towers and relays to improve service out here, though. Apparently there's even fiber optic cable run out to Chitina now. Crazy.
