Every year when the barge comes up to the villages. Once they are done off loading all of the material & equipment etc. They offer empty connex units for sale in every village. NO shipping charges. 2k for a unit! Every home in Point Hope has at least one of these outside. Some homes have many!

Some units are larger than the regular size units.

They deliver them right to your home to the exact spot you want.

This doesn't surprise me, in coastal villages and port cities. It's kind of in line with what I suspected: they seem sort of like a renewable resource in those areas. What is the cost of moving them further inland? I know things are still shipped to the interior, but I suspect the cost of the containers might be higher.

I wounder how much snow load they can handle? Because the container on top of the other unit sits on a frame from the lower one and not on the corrugated metal top.

It would take a lot more to transform the container into a home, but I agree: for the basic shell structure, that's not a bad price. Have you found any other sites yet that talk about how to do this?

I kind of like all the different colors they come in. That red one was especially nice.

I can see where they'd be super convenient for storage purposes, but I don't know that after you made all the modifications necessary to make it livable it'd be less expensive than putting up a simple cabin would be.

It might be easier, though. And I suspect that some people like the look and potential portability of them. I think both alternatives have their place.

Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, White, black, brown & you can also paint them any color.

There is no limit to the amount of snow they can hold.

The book "Compact Cabins" has several plans utilizing them for most or part of the houses. They reccommend doing the remodeling of it before it arrives since they figure you will be in a remote location and supplies will not be as easy to obtain as it is elsewhere.
