Default Iditarod

Dallas Seavey arrived at the checkpoint in Koyuk about an hour-and-a-half ahead of Aliy Zirkle in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, but his team is moving slower than hers.

Sports | Dallas Seavey maintains Iditarod lead | Seattle Times Newspaper

I read where Zirkle is from Two Rivers, Alaska. Well, my mom was from Two Rivers, WI, so my money is on Aliy to win the race.

If she doesn't I'll move to Alaska and eat nothing but canned moose for one year and then return to the lower/lesser 48.

Sounds like it's turning into a real nail-biter:

Quote:
MONDAY, noon -- A close Iditarod looks even closer, according to GPS tracking data.
The tracker puts Dallas Seavey and Aliy Zirkle at the same mile mark as they drive their teams from Koyuk to Elim.
Seavey owned a 22-minute lead over Zirkle when they left Koyuk.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the race, the battle for the Red Lantern is also looking close.
The three racers at the back of the pack left Ruby on Monday morning after long stays at the checkpoint.
Dan Seavey, Dallas's grandpa, stayed nearly 19 hours before leaving at 7:55 a.m.
More than two hours later, Jan Steves and Bob Chlupach left within eight minutes of each, with Steves pulling out at 10:17 a.m. and Chlupach at 10:25 a.m.
Odds are good one of those three will claim the Red Lantern as the last musher to finish the race.
Go Aliy!

Sounds like good logic to me.

Us Polish people are the salt of the earth...

The latest GPS shows they are virtually running neck and neck being at the same mile marker. Dallas dropped a dog and is down to 10 while Aliy is running with 12...that could make the difference down the stretch. Damn, wish I was in Nome for the finish.

Yes, despite all the abuse we take, us Poles are cool beans. Sounds like the race could be really close. Hope the girl from Two Rivers wins so I don't have to eat canned moose for a year.

Pickled pigs feet I could handle.

Too bad the Iditarod has less year after year Ice Fog. Brave contestants do push on even in the worst of the worst weather when the timing is right. It's best to not run as fast when checking into check points. Slow the pace down with the dogs. Conserve every ounce of energy for resting period. Then boost food into the system for quick get up and go response. Always double check if the front dog obey's commands and have one or two other dogs just in case to take up the front of the pack.
