Default Going soon

Hello all, My Wife and I are moving to Kenia-Soldotna area in April. We have visited there and fell in love with the area. My wife is an RN and will be able to get a job easily enough, I am a Union Ironworker. I've talked to the Union hall in Anchorage and the work is spotty. I am a certified welder and good with metals so I hope I can land a job not to long after we arrive. We will only be there 7 months a year. Again no problem for my wife if she uses the traveling nurse program, for me it may be a different story. Does anyone have experience at working part time in a fab shop or boat yard welding?

We have been planning this move since June. So by April I hope to have everything ready. I have been researching Alaska, and the area around Kenia for some time now. I have 3 close friends in Kenia who are river guides. They have been a great help, but since they guide they don't know much about the local jobs.
One thing that is confusing is the resident pay. From what I understand, even if I'm in Alaska for 7 months a year, have an Alaskan DL, own a house there I'm still not a resident. I read the whole list of requirments and ended up confused.
Anyway I have been reading the post here for a while and just wanted to say "HELLO"

Default Not exactly sure....

I am not exactly sure about the state of affairs in Kenai, as far as jobs are concerned...As for a certified welder, you cant get very far in Alaska without needing one Why limit yourself to ship yards..? Aviation is big as well up there, and those bush pilots are always breaking something structural...

Here some links for ya.....
