Exclamation Corruption, even in Alaska, say it ain't so!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The former head of an oil field services company testified Wednesday that he paid a lawmaker nearly $8,000 to help keep him in office and advocate for the construction of a natural gas pipeline tapping the state's vast North Slope Reserves.

Bill Allen, former chairman of VECO Corp., testified that he paid $7,993 to former House Speaker Pete Kott in an inflated invoice for a flooring job to Kott's business. Kott wanted the extra money so he could hire his son to run his re-election campaign, Allen said.

This hurts me so. I liked to think Alaska was the last place on earth where people could trust their government. Just kidding about that idealism, but I wonder if this kick-back business is widespread in the Alaskan Legislature? That could explain why those elected officials are willingly giving money (PDF) back to citizens. (To keep people happy and quiet).

Ugh, isn't it sad? I know a lot of people who do believe that the PFD is really paying us to accept the fact that they're destroying our state.
I'm not sure what I believe. But it's certainly disheartening to read stories like that, isn't it?

It's not only here. I think NJ just had some similar issues. And if those elcted officials started messin with our dividends...they would not be long in office I think. It's not any hush money payment made state wide to the locals. I can't stand politics...and would be first in line to oppose any elected official that is scamming us or this states government. I'm glad they got caught. And I hope this deteres any funny business in the future.

No government anywhere should ever be trusted. Eternal vigilance is required if we want to maintain the freedoms we enjoy. We are fortunate to live in a state where even a single vote truly makes a difference. Politicians who forget that reality put their career in peril.

The joke I tell at work is that you couldn't buy a city inspector in Chicago for that little.
