The only way I could answer that would be to do a job search on Craigslist, Alexsys, the Anchorage Daily News, Coolworks, USA Jobs etc. Those would be good websites to check out.

Depends on the field. Construction is not good. Financial jobs are so-so. Quite a few low paying retail jobs out there. Summer work in tourism is doing OK. If you had a dump truck you would have been hauling snow all winter. If you had a strong back and a shovel you would have had work all winter.

Private aviation is always hiring. I know where I'm at they hire in seasonal summer help from the lower 48 because there isn't enough qualified techs up here. That's how I wound up here, but permanent. Some of our mechanics can make in one summer season here as much as a normal mech job anywhere in the 48 for the whole year. If you're lucky to get hired full time.... Money in the bank.

First Student always is struggling to keep enough bus drivers. You start at double minimum wage and work split shifts.

I have a few cousins in the early 40's looking at heading up for the summer and fall, to see what jobs are available. They all have welding and Mfg. backgrounds.
They are talking about doing the camper thing, like Marty mentioned to me.

Jobs, at least in the interior of Alaska aren't as good as a lot of people think. I am not trying to discourage anybody from working in Alaska, just being realistic about jobs and wages. First, most jobs aren't full-time and permanent, and this means that benefits such as healthcare and the rest aren't provided by employers. On top of that the cost of living in the interior is extremely high. A 1-bedroom apartment may go for around $1,000 or a little more per month depending on location and other factors. If you have a home with around 1,700 square feet of living space plus garage, this winter it has been quite expensive to keep it warm inside, or around $1,000 or more per month for heating fuel alone, and somewhere from $180.00 to $500.00 for electricity. In relation to the cost of healthcare at the local hospitals and clinics, this is something that you have to see with your own eyes to believe it. It's amazingly expensive. Dental care is the same. For example, a root canal plus a crown could easily fetch $1,400.

People who have retired of live on fixed incomes are having a very difficult time surviving in the interior of Alaska, and are moving to the lower-48.

Sounds like they have skills. They will likely find work. Manufacturing means what? I know what welding is.

If it means working in a factory the only thing we have like that are fish processing plants.

Thanks Ryan, I think they will stay south of FB for the time being.
