My last encounter with black ice was a nightmare. I think we were going about 55 down the summit on the road to Hollis on POW. I know I mentioned it before here. The Prince's father and I are still quite good friends and he was driving me to the ferry to fly out of Ketchikan almost a month ago. It was about 2 minutes of swerving, spinning, and me thinking that it was going to be so awful for our son--and I'm pretty much convinced that if almost anyone else had been driving, it would have been.

Ok on the dog thing I called a number for Canadian Border crossing and they refered me to this link. Canadian Food Inspection Agency - Health of Animals - Importation of Pet Dogs

The lady said only if you were coming in by plane or boat or if the animal was traveling alone then you would need the vet certificate.

The certificate requirement is mainly for bringing a pet into Alaska. Check the State of Alaska link:

State Vet - Pets

Not needed for Canada travel, but needed to into Alaska.

This one time I was about to leave for Fairbanks from Anchorage, I swear my sister said "watch out for black guys." I had a puzzled look at her. I asked, 'what about black guys?' She looked at me laughing, "BLACK ICE!" I swear she talks so fast that I didn't understand her the first time.

OK, that's exactly what I thought--that the requirements would be different for getting them in AK than what they are for Canada. I'm glad that you were able to find out now though than finding out at the Alaskan border.

If you're spending time in Washington, you can find a vet there. Many Washington vets there are used to seeing pets before they cross the border. Just have your pet's shot record available for their inspection so they can put the rabies date on the certificate. If your current vet has recently seen your dog, they may fill be able to fill out a certificate without a check-up.

I can close my eyes and see the drive up from Bellingham. I can smell the farms passing Lynden (phew). I'm so jealous.
