Default Hey Rance

Must be nice workin the slope for 20 years with take-home pay of $6,000.00 a month. With free meals and housing there as well.

But , for folks comin up here on a shoestring is risky, I mean what dosent kill you makes you stronger, but I dont want to go there.

Why dont ya encourage the $8.00 an hour crowd to discuss the realities of pain.

A person better have his **** together Bigtime, or make at least $18.00 an hour or you wont last. Unless living from paycheck to paycheck is your reality.

If City -Data Corp. dosent mind of course.

I mean living in a McMansion in Willow with a Florida attitude is insanity.

Moving to Alaska isnt like moving to Denver or Great Falls. When you break down here, you run home to the lower 48. I dont think alaska will ever be a lower 48 society.

I mean , isnt the root of most posts inquiries?

I realize city - data is a generic travel - move site , but Alaska is SPECIAL , and I hate to see folks dreams turn sour. On a site like this I know its taboo to get to intellectual or overly concerned with on the ground real issues. and the CD agenda is keep it vague and generic. I wish for a bit of latitude.

Everthing cycles whether we like it or not.

Well...not sure what your asking for here...but here goes. Yes I have a good job up north. But I've spent 20 years getting there. I've worked for minimum wage on more than one occasion. And many jobs under the table for cash. Yes I've lived from paycheck to paycheck. One winter there was so little work I sold firewood from the back of my truck and had to pay off my hospital billl for the birth of a child. So we did'nt eat king crab everynight. I got by no problemo. If all you can get is an 8 dollar an hour job...then you have to live ackordingly. Maybe no phone or internet, watch the electric bills etc...but if anyone has the desire to live anywhere...if there's a will there's a way it can be done.
I work up north because I save that much more on travel, groceries and beer! If I worked locally I would be spending more. The one drawback to working up north is what I think jail must be like. Very isolated and restricted.

I don't expect people to base their decision to move here on any of my posts. I just want to see pioneers come here, carve out a special place and become fine Alaskan citizens. Not everyone belongs here. But most will have to give it a try to come to that realization. Not everyone that comes here will have a good first impression. And thats ok. That can happen anywhere on the planet. Moving here or anywhere is gonna be a risk. Are you willing to take that risk is the real humdinger.
