I work for one of the largest corporations in the USA, and most of you do business with us either directly or indirectly on a daily basis. The fact that I live in So Cal, one of the most PC, crybaby, nanny-state places on Earth just makes it more fun.

If someone sneezes and someone else says "bless you", some crybaby atheist will go crying to HR.

Today it was my turn "to get the call". I show up, and there is one HR consultant and the HR Director.

They tell me about our policy on tolerance and diversity, and that we don't tolerate racial slurs. Nobody's more PC than me so I shocked, shocked I tell ya'

I asked them what I said, and they replied that someone had heard me use the term "Slope" to describe somebody. When they said that all I could do was laugh. They asked me if I thought it was funny, and I said "no".

Chuckling, I said I actually used the term "Sloper". The HR women asked, "Is that different"?

And I said, "Yeah, a Sloper is my friend Dan that works up in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska (on the north slope), that thing you said is offensive to Asians".

I thought she was going to cry, then I added, "Have you seen a picture of my wife, she's from the Philippines".

They're getting back to me
OH WOW!! A-HYULK-HYULK!! THAT WAS SOOOOOO FUNNY!!

... aside from the fact that

a) you're referring to SoCal as a place that's crushingly PC, which is just.... dumb. So incorrect. I know that people just loooooove to say that all of CA is super-PC, but it's not. Furthermore, you're in San Diego, which is more Reagan-conservative than Maddow-liberal.

and

b) as a resident of SoCal who just clicked on this because I saw it on the main forum page, who is of partial Asian ancestry, dates an Asian, and has a large number of Asian friends, and grew up in decidedly non-PC Boston, I have never in my life heard this term until now.

Basically, I have a really tough time believing any of this.

Well, anyways... I'll let you guys get back to passing your time by dumping on California. Take care and good luck

So the place you work sucks. That's not Orange County's fault. And again: Orange County? PC? LOL. It's basically the same politically as San Diego... Reagan conservative. You're not living in the land of Nancy Pelosi, dude.

Super! Still the first time I've ever heard it.

Don't know what to tell you. It's not a word I use, but I've heard it before.

It may be a generational thing. It was used a lot in the late 60's early 70's.

I was born in '83. That certainly could have something to do with it.

But, again... I reiterate: Socal is not exceptionally PC. San Francisco certainly can be... but Socal really isn't, even in the more "liberal" areas of LA.

I have heard that term used in Vietnam movies. I never could figure out what it means though and maybe that's for the best.

I grew up in NoCal, Klamath, in the 60s & 70s, (still have family that live there), was very conservative in those days not so much any more due to SoCal peeps moving there and people like me moving out. Was a great place to grow up.

I have been all over CA, even lived in SoCal for a while, would not want to live anywhere in California now too many PC rules. That is one reason why I live in Alaska, not as many PC rules.

Besides SoCal is where Ken is from……..
