I've heard there is something in that lake...big enough to snap a 3/8" cable and run off with a shark hook.

And the cable was anchored to a large tree! And I've heard many pilots say they've seen a dark large object moving through the water from above. Wonder what it is...

Ahha! The wonderful Iliamna Lake Monster! This terrific "monster" has been talked about for decades and decades. Glad to hear it hasn't been forgotten! Common theory is that it is a very, very large sturgeon. Since Lake Iliamna is so big, and gets almost 1,000 ft deep, it must be a stunner! There is also another common belief that the Lake is home to all sorts of strange and unusual creatures. When I lived in Anchorage the Daily News offered a substantial reward for anyone that could prove the Lake Monster existed.

I love it!!

That head when it thrusted out of the water for a second sure looked like it was a snake...

Cool World's Largest Sea Otter

Whatever it is, judging from the video footage it is at least 20 feet long. It certainly doesn't move or look like a sturgeon. If it is a snake, then it is the only one in Alaska, and if it is a sea otter then it is the world's largest.

No way, man! The glacier fed ones are the best!
Mendenhall Lake is probably too cold for your average sissy, but when it gets real hot, which is pretty rare, there's really nowhere else to go...
Lynn Canal? Ack! Even colder! I only swim there when it's by accident! (like getting caught by the tide)
Gastineau Channel? No way. Who knows what the cruise ships dump in there.
Twin Lakes? Been there done that. Absolutely disgusting...

You just have to wash your hair a few times afterward because the moraine (glacier silt) gets in it and makes it look really funny.
