Visitors to Alaska's Denali National Park this summer may be able to catch a glimpse of something you don't see every day: a three-pawed grizzly bear.

A picture of the bear shows it to be missing about half of its right front leg.

Owen said park officials don't know how the bear was injured, but did not think it was from a trap because the wound was a clean cut.

Alaska grizzly missing half a leg – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

I have no idea how a grizzly bear managed to get a leg cut clean off. I suspect some outside force was involved. Perhaps a great white hunter for the lower/lesser 48.

Glad I don't live in any of those lesser states. Heck, I can't imagine having to mingle with any of those people. The only thing I'd have to say to them is: Get Bent.

The bear is doing quite well according to this story:
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner - Tripawed grizzly makes return appearance at Denali Park

The only problems I can see are the "do-gooders" chasing after this bear to take photos, or even trying to pet it .

The bear will do fine. This is just part of nature most likely. No one is worried about the three legged calves he has left in his wake. Actually, there aren't many. He probably didn't leave any three legged ones...they got eaten.

I like bears, but we need to realize that they are the predators and deserve nor more or less sympathy than do their prey.

This is the same bear that we saw last summer, he's still alive. Great

That's not a way to get a leg up in life.

I wonder if her name is Eileen?

The thing about walking on all fours is that when something like this happens, you lose an arm and a leg.

One day at an Alaskan zoo I saw a three-legged bear. I went to the zookeeper and said, "Excuse me sir, but why does that bear only have 3 legs?"

"Well," said the zookeeper, "that bear is very special. One time the monkey cages caught fire. That bear alerted us and saved all the monkeys."

"That's amazing sir but why does that bear only have three legs?"

"Then there was that time the bear saw a horrible blizzard coming and we didn't. The bear rang the alarm, alerted us to the storm, and saved us all. If it weren't for that bear we would all be dead."

"But still, that doesn't explain why the bear only has 3 legs."

"Then, there was that other time when a rambunctious child was trying to show off and fell into the bear's enclosure. That bear grabbed the kid gently with two paws and lifted him up so that the parents could get him!"

"But why? Why only three legs?"

"Well," said the Alaskan, "with a bear that special... you don't eat them all at once!"

Just as long as the bear isn't running around wounded from a sloppy hunter...it's a bear eat bear world.

Or as long as the bear is not run over with a truck by a sloppy driver...

Or as long as the 3-legged bear doesn't get into a fight with a bigger and sloppy 4-legged bear...
