I've personally always been a fan of traveling through Alaska using the AMHS. I know its not the best option for everyone, but I would recommend anyone considering a cruise to Alaska to at least give it a thought.

Find a good cruise agent off any one of the sites above. By going through an agent, with that many people, they should get you some fantastic deals, block of rooms, onboard credits and all sorts of things.
Alaska trips are a little different than say western caribbean (my favorite spot)
There are Off mosquito towellettes you can buy ahead of time at amazon, Amazon.com: Off! Deep Woods Insect Repellent Wipes, 20 Towelettes: Health & Personal Care Better than spray and easy to carry a refill.
Wear your clothes in LAYERS. Undershirt, shirt, hoodie type jcket, bring gloves, you can wear nylons under your pants as an extra layer, or above the knee socks www.sockdreams.com or www.joyofsocks.com
Ladies should forget heels. If you have never been on a cruise the boat is moving, and it is hard enough to get your sea legs, let alone do it in heels. Make sure you take a pair of flats, or ballet type shoes with you and a good pair of walking shoes for shore excursions.
