School has already started up here... why are you just starting now?

Of the three villages you listed Atqaksuk would be the most unpleasant. I have visited them all. After you spend a year or so at your assigned village you can transfer to AKP if you like. Teachers transfer all the time.

When you get there dont be in shock... This is a different world than anything you will have experienced before. The people will not just open up to you right away, it takes a little time. Also, the village life is a big adjustment for most people. I have done it for over a decade now and I love it, but some don't last long. Be open minded please.

Are you a teacher in NSBSD? I won't be starting until next fall. I am just trying to get info on the places now so I can start buying necessary items. And prepare myself Northern AK is a long way from Southern MS. I plan to be very opened minded. I am putting myself in their world, I don't plan to try and drag mine with me = ). I'm in this for the new experience.

They hired you now for the fall of 2008? Wow, I had no idea.

NSBSD paid good money at one time, those days are gone. The up side is the insurance package is good and it is a fun adventure. I wish you could have started up here when we didnt have indoor toilets... those were the days. Let me know if you have any questions about the place.
