This is a community problem. When we lived in the village on the Yukon (less than 200 people) we had the main post master and two different subs, so if the postal employee was out, the PO still opened.
Hopefully someone will step up and get trained, b/c not getting mail in the village just sucks monkey balls.

I work out of Naknek, AK during the Sockeye run (never had any post issues) and was talking with a freight contact. He mentioned Perryville didn't get mail for months because the local agent went on a drunken bender.

Strange things happen in the villages because of the different life style and thinking. Years ago a frends husband was killed in an airplane crash in to a mountain because the person responsible for the airports beacon took it home with him one night.

In South West AK it seems once you venture outside King Salmon things can get a bit odd.

Freight to Pilot Point can also be a bit challenging.

Growing up in logging camps in Southeast & on Afognak, we always said we got our mail tri-weekly. As in, the plane would try this week and if didn't make it, it would try again next week. With weather, sometimes we'd go a couple of weeks with no mail or freight.
