Personally, I love Sterling, but that's a massive highway running up the center of town. It's as big as any through Anchorage. Winter is okay, but you have to deal with a million tourists in summer.
If I had my druthers, I'd live in Kasilof or Ninilchik around there. Clam Gulch is nice, and so is Anchor Point.

What Women?
Yup....it can be really bad here, it's not quite 5 to 1, though it surely does seem like it. It varies widely around the state, from about 50/50 in Anchorage to like 5 to 1 in the bush. The single ladies there can, and do, have their pick. After 25yrs of looking and not finding anyone, I finally got desperate and "imported" my girlfriend from Florida...

Is there a shortage of women that most men would rate as a "10" ? - YES.
Is there a shortage of hard working, adventuresome, honest (about themselves and to others) dedicated and individualistic. - NO

Kids who live in Sterling attend Jr. High in Soldotna which is about 12 miles south of Sterling. Soldotna Middle School takes 7th and 8th grade from Sterling, Soldonta, Kasilof, Kalifornsky Beach and everyone in between. Soldotna is in the middle and the largest of the towns. Kasilof is 12 miles south of Soldotna. Small world - I went to school with Rance and reconized his name from this forum. (Not many guys named Rance)

I am a 34 year old female, moving from Northern Calif. to Soldotna, AK. I am really excited for my move. I've lived in Calif. all my life. I am fortunate enough to have meet a friend from soldotna area, while I was vacationing in Hawaii last year. I have paid about 5 visits to the great state of AK. and I absolutely love it !!! The only thing I am concerned about is finding a job once I get there. I've been in many different positions in the medical field, for about 14 years now. I regreat to say that one of them is not a RN.(hoping to go back to school at some point in the near future), but anyways, I would like to stay in this field of work, if possible. However, would consider another field if it paid enough to keep my head above water. I thought since it sounds like you have lived there for a long while, maybe you could give me some insight as to what I maybe up against, job wise? Thanks in advance to anyone who responds with ideas or suggestions. Oh, by the way GREAT message board. I really have enjoyed reading all the posts..........Sarah
