I dont like to sterotype, but if the data is true I'm not surprise.
Its very isolated in Northern parts of just about anything.
Many say they live a different world, but thats just a simple
though of expression.

My wife and I raised two daughters and two boys in this area (Eielson, North Pole), and never had a problem with any of the child molester talked about in this forum. However, our kids were not allowed to be unattended. There was always an adult with them, either my wife or me, and not because of child molesters, rapists, muggers, moose, bears, muskox, etc., but because one of the most important responsibilities of any parent is to keep an eye on his or her kids.
Also, if you do a little homework on the subject of child molestation, won't be surprised to find out that a great number of these cases are perpetrated by family members (at least in Alaska), close friends, step-parents and mothers, etc. A child molester can be anybody, not just an estranger.

You have to keep in mind that most of these people aren't convicted for molesting a child, actually most are convicted of a 1st offense of sexual assault! they may have just gotten the wrong vibe, and reached for a boob grab, or a kiss... I am sure most people have been there, a lot of times the boy cries wolf a little more then he should be here.
most people are too affraid of walking down someones driveway... they could be shot on site, or shot at.. so if your at home most likely they are more affraid of you then you are of them.
If you are worried about the chances... then avoid the situation. If you dress like a ****, people will treat you like one.... If you are out partying all night, there is a chance some drunk will hit on you...
The crime rate is high, but if you mind your own business.... it all works out in the end, even if you have been a victom of a few wrongs... You'll be fine, I can speak on experiance. I have been through a lot of crap here, and I still love it! It's my home and a better place then a lot of others... Even if I move, i will always be an alaska girl, and kicking ass the whole time

I don't think it really is an expression.... where else in the us but here in AK can you hear about moose being thrown out of airplanes, or make blowing up cars part of your summer ritual? Where else would you find a person out looking to run into a wolf or bear just to attempt a hand on hand combat? where else would you walk out in your underware at 0 degrees just to shoot that annoying squirl that has been nagging you... where else would you find someone pulling a frozen squirl with popcicle sticks glued to his feet for ski's behind a pickup truck? common... this place is like no other... not just an expression!

Alaska
Hey. . . .wow. OOoook I kinda laughed when I saw this. Alaska isn't bad at all. I have lived in Fairbanks my whole life and now live in North Pole. Mind you it isn't any different since I go to FAI everyday for work-bout a 30 min drive.
As for trailers, allot of ppl have them out here. North Pole is very small, and still kinda new. Fairbanks is a bit older, and doesn't have as many trailers. As for RV's and such. You'll see allot of ppl out here with them either because there is such good fishing and camping- My back yard is like the woods so I really don't see why ppl go camping- or their tourists.
I don't know why ppl say there are allot of sex offenders, but I know that it isn't bad up here. I'm a 19 yr old female and nothing has happened to me or many of my friends the past nineteen years. The only time I've heard things happen is when ppl go to bad parties or decide to do something stupid- like hang out with the wrong crowed. If you're a sex offender ppl normally know- its small enough of a Town. There is a man in FAI that was a sex offender to children. Everyone knows him-no one likes him.
Anyways just felt like I needed to comment. *shrugs* its nice living up here. Its beautiful, but to those moving up here get ready for a little hurt. In the summer the sun NEVER sets. In the winter we get roughly 4-5 hours sunlight.

 ......HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
OMG!! I'm sorry. .. blowing up cars as a summer ritual? Throwing moos out of airplanes? OMG. thats freaking funny. For some reason people have us all wrong. Sometimes moose come flying down, but thats cuz they get their antlers caught in the telephone pole wires when there let down. And we try and help.
As for the squirl thing. . .no. just. . .just no. yes we go out bare foot at 0 but thats because we get -50 below and its not that cold to us. Right now its summer here (July) and its +60.And one on one hand Combat. you're kidding right? I was five feet from a bear, and scared s***less. I have had a wolf pack almost chase me and my foster mom- they probably would have if they hadn't been after the caribou. Those animels will take you apart if you don't watch it. Even a mother moose will. We carry guns for that type of stuff.
BTW almost everyone up here has one.
Up here, yes we are different. But not like that. Were kinda normal if you think of us that way. yah. sorry that was just funny. look up FAI or NP alaska some time. Look at pictures. We are not that different!!!

Alaska*again*
Hey I'm back. i just thought of something though. Does anyone here actually know what were are??? I mean Fairbanks and North pole?? Why we have as many people as we do???
Military . That is the majority of our pop. And I know the common thing we say around here is all the army/air force people are not very good. Its the younger soldiers who give them bad rep. I mean, we do support our troops-obviously since that is almost everyone. Just point at someone in town they most likely are military.
So. . .no offense but if there are any sex offenders it is most likely coming from them. So. . .mostly its coming from everywhere else. Don't be insulted. Its the truth. I know that everyone of my friends who gets in with the wrong crowed normally hangs with military men. Though I myself know quite a few nice military men, and have thought about joining myself, so I'm not trying to be an A** about anything.

Perhaps it has something to do with all the Forcible Rapes being reported. Fairbanks has more Forcible Rapes per capita than Anchorage, and Anchorage has more than DOUBLE the national average of Forcible Rapes according to the FBI.

I sometimes wonder why people bump up a old post instead of making a new one.

It might be all those North Pole elves. They are forced to build toys all year! It must make them crazy.
