Default So many SEX Offenders in North Pole AK

I am moving up to Eielson AFB next year and I was doing a little research about north pole. I found the ratio of sex offender to population is 1-55 people. That shocked me but i did a little more research and I could not find another city that had over 100 people that had a ratio lower than 300-1. Is the north pole a sex offender refuge or something...any information wouldbe helpful thanks.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but i was also checking that on the city-data stats for AK.
Most of the cities have a hight rate of rapes, compared to the quantity of people living on it.
For example: Juneau with a population of only 30,711 habitants (according o City-Data.com).
Type: Rapes 2003 (36), 2004 (39), 2005 (30). Thats about one rape for every 1000 habitant, kind of alarming.

Now, Im no saying that's something exclusively of that region, there are rapes on every single part of he world, but normally on small towns is less, just like others crimes, for example the same city have 0 Murders in those same years:
Type: Murders 2003 (0), 2004 (0), 2005 (0). Then why so many rapes?

Sex offender who have moved over there, maybe because of how remote the place is?
Escaping from the laws on others states maybe?

I took those numbers from: http://www.city-data.com/city/Alaska.html

That seems high enough I wonder if your statistics are skewed in some way? Have your checked multiple sources?

The state of AK shows 57 registared offenders for North Pole (99705). There are other zips for the area.

Below is the website for the database.

Yeah I saw that the numbers were different but the 1-55 is with the lower ratio so that is even more scary, that 25 more sex offenders have moved there or were convicted in the last year.....the city data web site looks like it takes the last year data and uses it.....It is very interesting to see such a disparity though. I saw a date line once were child sex offenders gather at certain web sites and such to get together and share stories and info.....Looking at the available info I was wondering if the north pole with it's child theme of Santa and all was a haven for them...with that being said I'm sure not all of the registered offenders are sex crimes with minors...It is just weird that they would have such a huge disparity I mean it's not even close, 1-55 to 1-300.

For 2006 Alaska Dept of Labor estimates the state population at 670,053.
The Dept. of Public saftey website states 4232 registry entries.

That is 158 people for every 1 registry entry. Still seems high.

Only one entry for Eielson AFB.

Actually here is other resource with the same data for 2005.
Juneau Alaska Crime Reports, Crime News, and Crime Statistics

I know how you feel, I myself was very surprised as well.

We have also to remember that Alaska have a lot of tourists, specially in the summer, so we have to check when does those crimes happened!!!
I was reading somewhere on this forum that the visitors that go over there in summers, sometimes are even more than the locals.

.....I STILL CAN't WAIT TO MOVE OVER THERE.....Nothing is perfect on any part of the planet but AK is the closer thing to it that I've found...

That is an interesting thought. Along with housing costs are lower there usually than in Fairbanks.

I just found this report, though dated 2005 may shed some more light on the situation.

Oh PLEASE!

I give up.

Yep, it sure is. They flock to North Pole via some sort of secret sex offender underground railroad and they dress up as elves in order to lure the little kiddies into their lairs.
