Cool Seasonal Issues/Kayaking in mid-late September

Someone please tell me that there is somewhere (either on the Peninsula) or elsewhere in the state, where I can experience kayaking during my vacation in September (15th through the 23rd). I so want to try it, and all the outfitters I have found (thus far, I have checked in Seward, Homer and Denal State Park) are closed for the season by then . I had my heart set on a day for kayaking or canoeing. If not a tour available, per se, is there any place to rent a kayak to use in the Bay or a river (and would that be safe for a relatively "virgin"-kayaker?

Also, anyone know if the Seldovia ferry is still running then? And is Seldovia worthy of a day to explore? I appreciate any/all help. I'm at loss for things to do and see on my vacation, as it is visit number 4 to Alaska, and I'm seeking novel experiences.

THANKS, for any direction you might kindly offer.

Well the tourist mostly run off after Labor day and the places that cater to them close shop and run away!

To rent a canoe or kayak, call the different rental places and ask if they would make an exception, some of them live locally and you may be able to strike a deal with the owner for a after season rental. Whittier also has rentals there as well!

Seldovia is well worth the day (ot two) to poke around there, the ferry runs year round, but I think the schedule slows a bit after the tourist season dies.

As best I understand it, Resurrection Bay never freezes (Seward) might be a good place to try to find a kayak/canoe.
