They have service there but it's spotty on the north and south ends of Ketchikan. Also spotty on POW mainly due to the lack of towers...

We have CellularOne here in Michigan and have looked at the coverage in AK. Looks ok but not the best.

My Tmobile seems to work off Cingular's towers in SE although spotty and Anchorage, haven't tried Fairbanks yet. No roaming.

I don't see commercials for Alltel at all up here. Don't know of any coverage for them.

ATT is supposed to buyout Cellular One in 2008. They are waiting on the government to approve the buyout. That means the iphone will finally be available to Alaskans.

I was considering buying one of those pre paid phones. I see Cingular and Verizon both have them but what about Tracfone. I will be driving from Wash to fairbanks and would love to find something that would get the most coverage.

I'll tell you something---when you actually get one of those iphones in your hot little hands, even just to monkey around with it, they are addictive! You have never in your life seen such a seamless piece of technology. They are incredible---and I hate gadgets!

The iPhone works right now, we have several at work.
And yes, they are cool...and no, I don't want one.
